Zdeněk Sklenář, nephew and namesake of one of the best Czech painters of the 20th century, opened Gallery Zdeněk Sklenář in the mid-1990's. In 1999, the activities were extended to Prague where a gallery bearing the same name was opened at Smetanovo nábřeží. He pays systematic attention to presenting Czech arts here as well as abroad, emphasising extraordinary quality and uniqueness. A great emphasis is placed on the artists of the 20th century, but it also promotes the contemporary young generation. However, it does not restrict itself to commercial and exhibition activities, but also issues graphic albums, sheets of leading Czech artists and publications - monographs and catalogues. It is also very successful in popularising the names of our great artists and disseminates the knowledge of their works not only amongst experts.
Many valuable works of arts have passed through Zdeňek Sklenář's hands, such that the viewer can see "live" only very exceptionally. And Zdeněk Sklenář is going to show such exceptional works as part of Smetana's creative Litomyšl, and give (also himself) a present on his 50th birthday.
