It is 2009. I am in the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross in Litomyšl. I always like to photograph a broken church. The melody of Kryl’s song which suddenly starts in my head freezing me slightly, interrupts the powerful sound of the organ. God only knows when someone last played it here. I am watched only by the veiled faces of saints and possibly a fallen angel who survived the beauty and the destruction. I start to look for my pictures. Strange perspectives open up to me, random compositions of things, I am looking for order in disorder, the harmony of beautiful chaos, metaphysical links. Wandering in time, seeking harmony in chaos, composing images in my image, blending past and present.

After years I return to the photographic record, sorting, searching, wandering through the past of my soul and memories, and I meet with myself and the story of this church. Today it has been repaired, moved further into the future, so as to persevere, to bring people peace and a brief rest. I have made pairs of images that can tell us a little more. A space will have tones, feelings, thoughts, and it's up to us to let them resonate in ourselves.

This exhibition of the Slovak photographer Petr Župník is being held on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and as a reminder of the 25th anniversary of the separation of the Czech and Slovak republics. The project is taking place with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
