The Vabank exhibition presents an extensive set of student work produced in the studio of illustration and graphics at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. Already for fifteen years the studio has been led by the artist and graphic designer Juraj Horváth, who alongside teaching work itself has actively expanded the field of the genre traditionally known as illustration (the founder of the alternative publisher Baobab and also one of the main initiators of the annual festival of illustration Tabook). The exhibited works will present alongside traditional forms and specific genres – children’s illustration – also illustrations for books for adults, original books and magazines, advertising, film posters, packaging design and three-dimensional work. Work diverse in technique, and in the actual task entering the open space for discussion on the role and possible forms of illustration at a time of the expansion of digital media and also provoking reflection on the social function of print media today and of their share in shaping and cultivating the public space.
