Miroslav Koval was born on 26 November 1944 in Havlíčkův Brod but spent his early childhood (1953-1960) in a children's home in Pyšely near Prague because his parents were imprisoned as enemies of socialism during this time. Until 1965 he made a living as a worker in chemical factories in North Bohemia, after this he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where in 1971 he graduated in the studio of Professor František Jiroudek. Since then he has been living with his wife Lada, née Jílková, a fellow student at the Academy and daughter of sculptor Jiří Jílek, in Sobotín near Šumperk. Since 1994 he has been managing Jiří Jílek Gallery in Šumperk. In addition to paintings and ink drawings the most typical methods of his work are special photographic techniques. At this exhibition he is presenting a series of his photograms made in 1979-2001.
