The main theme of the work of the multimedia artist Daniel Pešta is the determination of people’s fate by their genetics, also their racial and social status and at the same time people’s potential to rise above and be free of them and ascend to a spiritual level of being. Both these motifs are also interwoven in his installation in the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross called ExCitace, which associates the neurophysiological process of muscular and mental tension and the ensuing transition to a higher energy level, and so to deeper knowledge. The video art Drop displays a kind of virtual God’s eye with drops of water or possible tears, which can be perceived as sorrow over the deeds of mankind. In opposition to this an object Jesus in Amniotic Fluid is placed in the crypt, acoustically accompanied by a woman’s breathing, indicating not only the joint biological origins of us all, but at the same time a promise of transcendental redemption, which is represented in the Christian tradition by the figure of Christ the Saviour.
