One of the main topics of the 52nd edition of Smetana's Litomyšl focuses on the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of the accession of Jan Lucemburský (King John of Bohemia) to the Czech throne. An exhibition of distinguished Luxembourg artist of Czech origin, Iva Mrázková, will be organised at this occasion.
Iva Mrázková (b. 1964 in Opava) studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague she continued at the Pietra Vanucci Academy in Perugia and at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She has numerous exhibitions in Luxembourg, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, USA, even a few times in the Czech Republic. In 2009 she was awarded a Knightly Order of Merit For Luxembourg by His Royal Highness, Henri the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
The works of Iva Mrázková are very diverse, from illustrations to woven pictures and oil paintings to sculptures and statues. The exhibition in Litomyšl will feature original illustrations for a book about John of Bohemia which will be published in a large volume and in numerous language versions (even in Czech) in 2010 and will be distributed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg throughout Europe.
The second part of the exhibition contains interactive sculptures which symbolise interlinking in Europe. The exhibition will introduce the works of the author where two boards with openings are connected by various materials and thus create a very decorative element; the visitors will be also able to insert materials into the spaces and thus create their own original pieces.
