Installation of the exhibition: Stanislav Kolíbal
STANISLAV KOLÍBAL is predominantly associated with sculpture. This time however, he presents an overview of his illustrative work, from his first creations in 1947 to his books from the nineties. The exhibition contains illustrations from classic fiction (Chekhov, Solzhenitsyn, Joyce) as well as examples from children’s books such as The Tree of Stories and The Kalevala.
His wife VLASTA PRACHATICKÁ dedicated her whole life to portrait sculpture. In her time she sculpted a whole range of well known personalities (the composer Bohuslav Martinů, painter Josef Šíma, student protester Jan Palach and the poet and novelist R. M. Rilke). More than 20 portraits here show her long years of development.
Their daughter MARKÉTA PRACHATICKÁ, for ideological reasons, was unable to study here so she started to work on some illustrations just for herself – such as, for example, for the book Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, for which she received a range of awards. This exhibition also shows further results of her years collaborating with local and foreign publishers.
